Robert Redford, the two-time Academy Award-winning actor, director and environmentalist, has sold

Sundance Mountain Resort,

Utah's wilderness luxury resort among North America's premier mountain destinations.

Redford

founded it in 1969

, more than 50 years ago, making it one of the venues (in addition to Salt Lake City and Park City) since the 1990s of the film festival of the same name he founded with Sidney Pollack.

The sale is the result of a long-term strategic plan designed to preserve and consolidate Redford's legacy at the resort, including an ongoing commitment to responsible development and land conservation.

The 2,600-acre resort encompasses 1,845 acres of restricted land.

Coinciding with this announcement, Redford and his family have partnered with Utah Open Lands to permanently protect more than 300 acres of pristine natural habitat, streams and wetlands where the newest construction, Elk Meadows, is also located.

Sundance is like no other mountain in Utah or the United States.

Dominating the canyon where the resort is located is Mount Timpanogos with the iconic Stewart Falls, famous trails for hiking and cross-country skiing and for years it has been a different place from the others having at the center environmental awareness when certain it was not fashionable.

Although many guests are wealthy, Everett Potter tells in a correspondence,

the resort has never been flashy or an extension of Hollywood

, despite being owned by a star like Robert Redford.

But how did he get there?

Redford discovered the area that would become Sundance in the 1950s when he rode his motorcycle from his California home (he was born in Santa Monica on August 18, 1936) to college at the University of Colorado.

He later met and married Lola Van Wagenen,

a girl from Provo

, the neighboring town, returned and purchased two acres for $ 500 in 1961 from the owners, a Scottish-born herding family who ran a ski rental business in Timp Haven.

Redford built a cabin and lived the mountain man lifestyle with his young family at the time of his first films.

But in the late 1960s, speculators were lurking to change the face of Utah, with intensive construction and unsuitable for nature.

Redford mobilized against them, financing the protest and buying more plots with other friends.

But maintaining Sundance required a profit, so for the nascent Sundance Mountain Resort he built the first of 9

5 cottages in the late 1980s

and eventually allowed the construction of more than 200 private homes, most of them nestled in trees. .

They were open on

Foundry Grill

and

The Tree Room, with a huge pine tree that grew in the middle of the restaurant.

The same was true of the

Ow

l

bar

, with its oak counter commissioned by the real Butch Cassidy.

Redford discovered it in Wyoming and had it restored.

The recent sale includes all Sundance Mountain Resort assets, including resort buildings, ski lifts, on-site dining options and event spaces.

It does not affect Robert Redford's structure or involvement in the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival, the Sundance Catalog, Sundance TV or the Redford Center.

The resort will continue to host workshops and events organized by the Sundance Institute and Redford Center,

including the role of location for the annual Sundance Film Festival

.

“Change is inevitable and for several years my family and I have been thinking about moving to a new property for the resort.

We knew that at the right time and with the right people we could make the transition.

Broadreach and Cedar share our values and an interest in maintaining the unique character of the resort while honoring its history, community and natural beauty.

This makes them fit to ensure that future generations can continue to find comfort and inspiration here, "the actor said. Broadreach Capital Partners based in Palo Alto, California, owns major hotel / resort management companies, including urban hotels. such as The Carlyle, New York Cedar Capital Partners, based in New York and London, owns among others The Hoxton Hotel, Rome; The Grosvenor Hotel, Edinburgh; The Lloyd Hotel, Amsterdam.
