Australian Open qualifiers, debut for seven blues

There are 7 Italian tennis players - 4 men and 3 women - who debut on the second day of qualifying for the first Slam of 2021, the Australian Open.

The preliminary round this year will be held - for the first time in history, exceptionally, due to the problems deriving from the pandemic and the security measures adopted by the state of Victoria - on the concrete of Doha, Qatar (the men's tournament), and on that of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (the women's race).

The conclusion is on Thursday 13th.

On the courts of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex it's up to Federico Gaio, number 17 of the seeding of "which", Paolo Lorenzi, 25th seeded, Matteo Viola and Gian Marco Moroni.

At the same time on the hard courts of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium and Complex in Dubai, the second day of the women's "which" with the debut of Elisabetta Cocciaretto, 18th seeded, semifinalist (with two failed match-points) at the junior tournament in 2018 Giulia Gatto-Monticone did well at the beginning of the day, while Martina Di Giuseppe was eliminated.

The main draw challenges will instead be held regularly in Melbourne from 8 to 21 February, postponed by three weeks with respect to the originally scheduled date, to allow athletes and staff - admitted to the country only in mid-January - to carry out the fifteen-day quarantine expected.

Pending the outcome of the qualifiers, there are nine blues in the main draw: Matteo Berrettini, Fabio Fognini and Lorenzo Sonego are among the seeded, then Jannik Sinner, Stefano Travaglia, Salvatore Caruso, Marco Cecchinato, Gianluca Mager and Andreas Seppi .

Three Italians were present: Camila Giorgi, Martina Trevisan and Jasmine Paolini.
