Spicy is not a foreign taste for giraffe.

The chain's well-known and beloved menu includes quite a few spicy dishes, including those whose spiciness is essential and deeply ingrained in their branding, such as "the spicy Filipino" and "the spicy dish".

They are of course not the only ones.

Perhaps this is also the reason why the new menu emphasizes and sharpens the "extra".

I mean, even the spicy one you've known for years has gotten another boost here.

So we made two glasses of cold water at hand and tested some of the dishes.



The "extra spicy" menu includes 5 starters - lentil soup, baby dumpling, extra spicy steamed salmon maki, crispy wings in a spicy sauce of yellow peppers and a healthy salad, 4 servings of noodles - the spicy dish, the spicy Filipino, sirloin noodles and Pad Thai, and 3 Wok (served with rice) - orange curry, sirloin sirloin and the Afghan dish.

From it we tasted the first 3, one portion of noodles and one portion of wok with one rice.

The most successful of the 3 spicy first courses sampled in this shipment was the Baby Dumplings dish.

The fact that the spiciness of the dumplings was not felt in the filling (chopped chicken and ginger) was an advantage because it balanced the spiciness of the chili oil-based sauce.

Another good first was the sushi roll which contained steamed salmon, rings of fresh red chili pepper and roasted almonds.

On the rice that wrapped the roll were sprinkled with dry chili flakes that were finely ground into a powder.

The result is a good bite with two layers of pleasant spiciness - the duller first of the chili powder and the second, sharper and fresher, comes when the teeth meet the live chili.



The spicy wing portion was the least good of the three.

Her sauce was delicious, though if I had to guess what its name was I would go for "peanut butter" or "sata" rather than yellow peppers, which were actually less felt in it.

But the wings lacked very crispiness and the result was sticky and in the absence of a better word in Hebrew: they were very soggy.

It was also the least spicy dish of those we tasted.

Is this something unusual compared to the usual spicy dish?

But is it delicious?

Definitely yes

When a dish is already called "the spicy dish" in advance, how much more spicy can it already be and what can this spiciness add to it?

With this question in mind we went over to taste the-spicy-extra-spicy dish.

We opened the takeaway box and looked at it, looking for what was different.

Though tasty, she was not the winner among the mains, as the sirloin Sichuan dish was better than her.

She was also sharper than she was.

Good sirloin chunks (not sticky at all! Well done!) And large pieces of white and green onions, champignon mushrooms and shatta pepper (it just looks menacing, the spiciness not from it), in a sauce of chili oil and soy.

It may have already been a cumulative effect of all the spicy dishes we ate, but our impression was that it was the most spicy dish in the cluster.

To ease our burning palate a bit, we ate it alongside the steamed white rice it comes with and it did the job - again we were in a good place with the spiciness.

The only caveat about Giraffe's extra spicy menu is that in all the dishes we tasted spicy it is the same spicy - red chili oil.

In the fast-paced pan-Asian cuisine that the chain has included to a degree of steady professionalism over the years, one can find all sorts of spicy, from Japanese wasabi that burns the nose caves to Thai curry.

So, we thought we'd find in this special winter menu a dish or two that would diversify the familiar and good delivery a bit.



Instead, we put together a slightly monotonous "spicy meal."

Very good, but similar.
