The mayor of Lecce, Carlo Salvemini, writes in a post on Facebook, who participated in the release of a turtle cured by the experts of the protected marine oasis Torre Guaceto, in the Brindisi area.

The animal returned to the sea from the beaches of Torre Chianca, Marina di Lecce.



"A return to life - commented the mayor - that my hope can be a good wish for all of us, at the beginning of the new year".

The release took place as part of the MySea project which aims to make recovery and protection actions more efficient and coordinated through the creation of a network of sea turtle recovery centers in Puglia.

Lecce is partner of this project with Manfredonia, Zapponeta, Molfetta, the Consortium for the management of the protected marine area of ​​Torre Guaceto, the regional park of coastal dunes, also in the Brindisi area and the Municipality of Calimera.



"The turtle we freed - explains Salvemini - will contribute to the protection of its species: it is in fact among the fifteen specimens that have departed in recent days from the Puglian coasts wearing a satellite transmitter" which "will provide us with the range of displacements and other weather parameters that will be used by Cmcc scholars. to monitor the impact of climate changes on the habitats and habits of sea turtles, and to map the areas potentially suitable for the presence of the species for the purpose of greater protection ".
