In order to control the 15-kilometer rule, a CSU politician would like to have cell phone data evaluated.
In times of Corona it would be "health protection or data protection".
A
CSU politician
suggests
evaluating
cell phone data to control the
15-kilometer rule
.
The rule only applies to
Corona *
hotspots.
The proposal was promptly followed by
massive criticism
.
Kassel - Since Monday (January 11th, 2021), people in
Corona hotspots are
only allowed to move freely around their place of residence 15 kilometers
in many federal states
.
A
CSU politician
, however, proposes the evaluation of
cell phone data
in order to be able to control the new measure - and meets with fierce headwinds.
The President of the Community Assembly, Uwe Brandl, said that he could imagine using
cell phone
data to monitor the new
15-kilometer rule
: “Today we can
read
movement profiles
from cell phones and in this way determine very accurately where people are .
We just have to decide now what is more important,
health protection
or
data protection,
”the CSU politician told
Bayerischer Rundfunk
.

Corona: State of Bavaria rejects controversial proposal to control the 15-kilometer rule
Brandl, President of the Bavarian Community Assembly and Mayor of the city of Abensberg, confirmed that he
could "understand"
the intention of the
15-kilometer rule
, but not "how one would like to control the whole thing sensibly".
Since the
police
only have limited resources, there can only be
spot checks
.
“And I believe that any regulation is only as good as it can be executed and monitored,” Brandl continued.
At the request of the
Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation
, the
Bavarian State Government has
already stated that the proposal will be rejected and that compliance with the new
Corona
rule will not be
monitored
using
cell phone data
.
A spokesman said there were "a number of good reasons that affected citizens should allow them to leave the 15-kilometer area".
Fight against Corona: Proposal to control the 15-kilometer rule receives heavy criticism
The
FDP
is also already heavily criticizing Uwe Brandl's plans: This is how Martin Hagen, parliamentary group leader in the state parliament, calls the idea a “taboo break” and emphasizes that
Germany must
not become a surveillance state.
In addition, such
corona
measures would mean that one would spy on one's own citizens.

There are also critical comments from the ranks of the Greens:
Katharina Schulz commented
on
and called the proposal to monitor the
15-kilometer rule
"overreaching".
In another tweet, the
Greens
MP
added
that "the collection of general movement profiles of citizens in a free democracy is inconceivable and violates the
Basic
Law".
This proposal by a CSU politician breaks a taboo.
Germany must not become a surveillance state.
Spying on
movement data of
83 million citizens - that will meet bitter resistance from us liberals!

Corona in Germany: Then the 15-kilometer rule applies
The
15-kilometer rule
applies in many federal states in rural districts and cities that
exceed
the value of 200
new corona infections
per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.
The key figures come from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in
Berlin
.
The
restrictions
will only be lifted if the infection values are below the value of 200 for at least seven consecutive days.
Hessen does not apply the 15-kilometer rule directly, but rather forbids people in Corona hotspots to head for tourist excursion areas.
The state of Lower Saxony leaves it to the municipalities themselves whether they want to include the 15-kilometer rule in their Corona regulation.
But when exactly does the 15-kilometer movement limit apply and how do you find out your personal movement radius?
And what influence does the 15-kilometer rule have on shopping at Aldi, Lidl and Co.?
