(ANSA) - LONDON, JAN 12 - The negative Covid buffer obligation has been activated since Friday for all those who will travel from abroad to London as in any other locality in England, whether they are foreigners or citizens of the Kingdom.

The indication, announced last week by Grant Shapps, Boris Johnson's Minister of Transportation, provides that the test must be performed by travelers within 72 hours of their arrival on the island, whatever the country of origin.

With a £ 500 fine for anyone unable to prove that they backed it unsuccessfully.

    At the same time, the obligation to isolate oneself at home for 10 days after arrival also remains in force (even without symptoms whatsoever, except for the meager list of exempted countries including Italy);

as well as completing a self-certification form prior to online retractable travel at the London government site.

The decision was motivated by the need to curb the risks of "readmission" of the virus from abroad while the United Kingdom is trying to bring under control a new surge in internal infections fueled by a more virulent variant of the infection.

An identical provision was also confirmed by the local government of Scotland and announced by those of Wales Northern Ireland - competent on the matter by virtue of devolution - in relation to anyone traveling directly from abroad to those territories of the Kingdom.

(HANDLE).
