Covid-19 in France: 355 deaths and 19,752 contaminations in 24 hours

The government could take further restrictive measures on Thursday, as the epidemic circulates at a high level in the country.

A new defense council is due to be held on Wednesday morning, before the Council of Ministers.

An appointment during which different options will be put on the table to deal with the strong circulation of the virus in the country.

An even more uncomfortable situation when you take into account the threat of more contagious variants.

This Tuesday, the latest figures published by Public Health France confirm this state of affairs.

In the past 24 hours, health authorities have identified no less than 19,752 new infections with the new coronavirus, against 20,489 just seven days ago.

The positivity rate, which measures the percentage of people positive for Covid-19 out of all those tested, amounts to 6.5%, against 6.4% recorded on Monday and 6.5% on Sunday.

2,678 patients in intensive care

To date, 24,703 coronavirus patients are treated in French hospital services, against 24,812 on Monday.

They were 24,871 last Tuesday.

Out of this total of hospitalizations, 2,678 people suffer from a serious form of the disease which requires care in the intensive care units (they were 2,666 on Monday and 2,616 last Tuesday).

Public Health France deplores this Tuesday 355 new deaths recorded in the hospital in the last 24 hours, against 310 on Monday.

Since the start of the epidemic, 47,773 people have died in hospital.
