The EU Commission has asked for a series of clarifications on the operation that should lead to the newco Ita.
According to what European sources confirm, the EU antitrust sent the government a letter asking in particular to investigate the conditions that would guarantee the discontinuity with the old Alitalia.
The letter, the sources specify, is part of the normal dialogue procedure with the authorities.
The Commission does not comment on the letter sent by DG Comp to the Italian authorities on Alitalia, but "in general" reminds that "the economic discontinuity" with the old company is analyzed "using a set of criteria including not only the extent of the assets transferred but also the transfer price, the identity of the buyer, the timing of the transfer and the economic logic of the transaction ". At this stage, the spokesman specified, "in the absence of definitive elements on this aspect, the Commission cannot take a position on economic continuity". Contacts between DG Comp and the Italian authorities are in any case in progress and, according to what is learned, there will be a technical meeting on Friday.
