In France, as abroad, the new series “Lupine” carried by Omar Sy is a hit.

But it's not just Netflix rubbing its hands!

Hachette, historical publisher of Maurice Leblanc, is releasing a new edition of “Burglar Gentleman” this Wednesday and is enjoying a great success in advance.

While the book has not yet been released, it is already shaping up to be a "very beautiful bestseller", according to its editor Cécile Térouanne.

"With the audiences of the series, we have already had to relaunch a reprint which has now reached 10,000 copies," welcomes the director of Hachette Romans and the Livre de Poche Jeunesse.

Pre-orders are really good, especially from Amazon and Fnac who have decided to triple their sales.

Netflix and Hachette know each other well.

Number 4 in the world in publishing, the literary subsidiary of Lagardère has already signed numerous partnerships with Netflix US, notably on series such as “Sabrina”, “Stranger Things” or “Riverdale”.

“We have real know-how and strong commercial power,” points out the director of Hachette Romans.

When we heard that they were preparing a series inspired by Arsène Lupine, we went to see Netflix France and they said yes right away for an exclusive partnership.

The two groups have decided to release a new edition of the book that looks as close as possible to the one Omar Sy holds in his hands during filming.

A beautiful object with the allure of an old book like the one Assane, the main character of the series, receives as a child and gives to his son later.

“The challenge, explains Cécile Térouanne, was to offer a book by Maurice Leblanc while making the reader understand that it was not a new adaptation but that it was linked to the Netflix series.

We wanted to send the message that the series is a permanent tribute to Arsène Lupine.

Mission accomplished thanks to the banner that immerses you in the audiovisual world.

”, we can read.

There is also the eight-page photo book inserted inside the novel where we notably find Omar Sy reading Lupine.

In addition, Le Livre de Poche Jeunesse is also publishing two reissues of “Burglar Gentleman” and “The Hollow Needle” stamped with the famous banner.

"The broadcast on Netflix will give real visibility to Arsène Lupine"

If since 2012, Maurice Leblanc's work has fallen into the public domain (his novels can be edited and distributed without financial compensation for the author's beneficiaries), Hachette Livre (Lagardère) is its historical publisher via the Marabout house. .

Like Agatha Christie, he is studied in college and elsewhere, in the series, we see the son of Omar Sy devouring the book like his father child.

Published in 1907, “Arsène Lupine, gentleman burglar” is a collection of nine short stories including “The Queen's Necklace”, at the heart of the series' plot.

"The broadcast on Netflix will give real visibility to Arsène Lupine, bet Cécile Térouanne while specifying that the books of the gentleman burglar have never been forgotten.

They regularly sell a few thousand copies each year.

“For now, Hachette Romans is already preparing the arrival of the second part of season 1 scheduled for later this year.

"It is a beautiful tribute that the small screen pays to literature," concludes the editor.

It's a virtuous circle because everyone is a winner.
