It will be the light pollution that still damages too many urban areas or the high concentrations of fine dust that make the skies less clear or, more simply, for the ancestral emotion that a star-studded sky immediately arouses in anyone who is in front of it.

But astronomical tourism is gaining new enthusiasts day by day.

And it is to be believed that, as soon as the travel bans caused by the Covid-19 pandemic will disappear, night trips to see the stars will be even more attractive, especially among mountain resorts.

In Italy, however, there is currently only one territory that can boast three places recognized as perfect "friends of the stars": it is the Val di Sole. This was established by Astronomitaly, a network of astronomical tourism born to identify and enhance the places of our Country with a low percentage of light pollution and to offer stargazing experiences.

The last to obtain the quality certification was the Albasini Refuge, above Dimaro, with the support of the Dimaro Folgarida Vacanze Consortium.

The third award for Val di Sole, after those obtained in recent years, from Malga Del Doss and Località Valpiana near the medieval village of Ossana.

"During our inspections we worked entire nights under the stars - explains Fabrizio Marra, founder of Astronomitaly - scientifically measuring the amount of light pollution through special tools and methodologies including the" sky quality meter "and evaluating the quality of accommodation and catering services destination.

At the same time we made a video-photographic reportage of the starry sky designed to provide photographic evidence of the extraordinary quality of the sky.

This is one of the most important phases of our work which aims to promote the best destinations where to stay by returning to observe the starry sky and the Milky Way ".

And in doing so, they offer a guarantee of quality to the many who go in search of the ideal place to stay with their noses upwards and immerse themselves in the most fascinating of night views.

"We are proud to have received this recognition that has so far been awarded to a few places in Italy and to a handful of realities in the Alps" comments Mauro Albasini, owner of the homonymous refuge, located at 1860 meters high in the middle of the Folgarida ski area -Marilleva-Madonna di Campiglio and in front of the spectacular Brenta Dolomites.

“Those who, like us, have been managing a refuge for decades know how much tourism must never lose sight of sustainability and respect for the natural wonders that surround us.

The sky is one of these wonders.

We must rediscover it and make sure that we defend it in every possible way ”.

For the Val di Sole, the recognition of the Albasini Refuge, like the two assigned in previous years, is confirmation of the path undertaken to enhance its natural heritage as an asset to attract increasingly sustainable and quality forms of tourism.

"We are now so used to losing sight of our mobile phones, that we no longer know how to recognize our starry sky above us", comments Fabio Sacco, director of the Val di Sole Tourist Board. "The one assigned to the Albasini Refuge is a another step that helps us in our commitment to reduce the ecological footprint of our activities and to propose an original and low-impact tourist offer.

A necessary path, given that our territory falls on two parks (the Stelvio National Park and the Adamello Brenta Natural Park).

As complex and demanding as it is, this is really the main road to combine economic development, well-being for the resident population and respect for the ecosystem ".
