Tens of millions of people around the world have already been vaccinated against corona, which gives scientists, and all of us in general, some horizon to look at - and that horizon is closer than ever and it looks not bad.

It is now clear to everyone that the corona is not going anywhere from here yet, but once many adults are vaccinated, the virus will not pose a more significant threat than the flu - according to a study published last week in the journal Science.

Children on the other hand are a slightly different story.

Children's immune systems are constantly being challenged by new pathogens, which is one of the reasons, the researchers estimate, that they are more effectively resistant to the corona virus.

Eventually, they claim, the virus will only infect children under the age of 5, and will also cause them at worst few and insignificant symptoms, and at best nothing.

In other words, the coronavirus will become "endemic", a pathogen that circulates at low levels and rarely causes serious illness.

You really do not want to get corona and flu together.

This is how you will prevent it

"The timing of how long it takes to reach this type of endemic condition depends on the rate of spread of the disease and how quickly the vaccine develops," Jenny Lavine, a postdoctoral fellow at Emory University in Atlanta, who led the study, told the New York Times.

"So really, the name of the game is to get everyone exposed to the vaccine for the first time as quickly as possible."

Dr. Lavin and colleagues searched the other six human corona viruses - the four causes of colds, plus SARS and MERS viruses - for clues to the fate of the new pathogen. 2003 and 2012, respectively, caused people to become seriously ill, but they did not spread widely. While all of these corona viruses produce a similar immune response, the new virus most closely resembles endemic cold viruses, Dr. Lavin and colleagues hypothesized.

From a new analysis of data from a previous study, they found that the first infection of the corona family virus that causes colds occurs on average between the ages of 3 and 5. After this age, people may become infected again and again, which increases their immunity to the virus but does not cause disease.

Researchers predict a similar future for the new corona virus.

It is estimated that it will take several years to decades of natural infections for the corona virus to be endemic.

Still, vaccines completely change the picture and the faster people get vaccinated, the shorter the timeline can be for a year and even less.

This does not mean that the vaccines will kill the virus, and it will probably remain in the area, only to be less deadly and dangerous.

Just like the flu.
