The date for the start of classes

is still February 17

.

Despite the increase in coronavirus cases in the AMBA and the slow application of vaccines to prevent the virus, the educational authorities again affirmed this Wednesday that that date will be the start of the 2021 school year.

The Minister of Education, Nicolás Trotta, affirmed that “all of Argentina, with the necessary care and the appropriate protocols, is prepared for the beginning of face-to-face classes”, during a visit he made to Salta, within the framework of a series of meetings that it will maintain with teams from the 24 educational jurisdictions of the country.

He said it after the controversial statements of Eduardo López, union secretary of CTERA (Confederation of Education Workers of the Argentine Republic), who had assured:

"Everything indicates that face-to-face classes are not going to start.

The boys in class are contagious and when they return home they infect their parents. I want to be able to hug my parents and my daughters. Cases are growing like the size of the Obelisk in Buenos Aires or the Eiffel Tower in Paris. "

The education minister is still ambiguous about going back to school.

Faced with this fragile certainty,

contacted the

Association of Argentine Private Educational Entities

, from where they assured that they are thinking of opening schools on February 17 with "the greatest openness and presence that possible."

For his part, Rodolfo De Vincenzi, vice president of the Argentine Confederation of Private Education Institutes (CAIEP), remarked that there is a school calendar already programmed and that "the starting method" would, in any case, be similar to last year's experience.

"At the end of 2020, they had already incorporated face-to-face to recover social ties. That will be the floor condition that is expected for this year. The ideal would be to increase it. Although during 2020 the school could be virtualized, this method has limitations. Especially with the little ones. The need to bond exists in all ages, but they increase when the children are younger. We are going to try to have the maximum presence possible ".

Rural schools, technical or located in localities without circulation of coronavirus returned to give face-to-face classes in October with small groups of students and strict hygiene protocols.

Vincenzi also clarified that the bubble system (groups of nine boys plus a teacher) has limitations because "three times more square meters and twice as many teachers are needed to cover all students. If the modality goes this year it will be the same that last year, this limitation will operate.

With which, the complement with virtuality will be inevitable ".

"We aim at face-to-faceity, whatever the cost, because the issues related to social ties cannot be resolved with virtuality. We are going to focus on that."

As for who would start first, Vincenzi assured that "we understand that it will be universalized. Afterwards, each school will have to think about how to apply the protocols. No one can guarantee a model that is stable because the pandemic is not stable."

He assured that schools have autonomy and that the format for the start of classes will be left to the decision of each one of them.

"Face-to-face time will be like the jewel in the crown, each school will have its own strategies to attend to the learning outcomes, where attendance is prioritized. What comes with a deficit from the previous year will have a priority. But it is asymmetric. in each school. The level of performance is not experienced the same in each school, because there is a greater or lesser level of connectivity. "

He said that

"the protocol does not define the size of the bubbles

.

"

That what is already known as social distancing, hygiene and the use of face masks is assured.

"In the application, last years, the schools were having different dynamics. It cannot be applied the same because the buildings are different."

Finally, he stressed that "at the beginning of February there will be a meeting of the federal council to arrive at a guideline. Only then will we know in more detail what the hours and days of presence will be."
