English variant of Covid-19: the Scientific Council recommends not to close all schools

2021-01-13T09:16:41.941Z

Professor Delfraissy believes that "the English data are not yet clear enough" for a general closure. But that in the first case

The Scientific Council has submitted new recommendations to the government for the Health Defense Council which is being held this Wednesday.

What did he recommend?

Its president, Prof. Jean-François Delfraissy, invited this morning on the Franceinfo antenna, did not reveal anything, except with regard to the measures concerning schools in the face of the proliferation of contaminations with the English variant of the virus, the more contagious.

"We have not advocated the closure of schools because the English data is not yet clear enough," he said.

"On the other hand, we must change the gauge and, from the first patient of the English variant, we must go faster and close this school."

According to Professor Delfraissy, there are "already a thousand people infected with the English variant in France".

This more contagious form of the virus will spread in France "if measures are not taken", he warned.

"We can only slow it down, we can no longer block this English variant which will spread in the country," he insisted.

In echo, the director of the ARS Ile-de-France, Aurélien Rousseau, interviewed Wednesday morning on BFMTV, assured that 11 cases of the English variant "are confirmed" in the region and that "about forty are suspect".

The Defense Council could decide on new measures to contain the increase in contaminations and face its most contagious variant, of English origin, which is starting to settle in France.

After this meeting scheduled at the Elysee Palace, followed by the Council of Ministers, it will be up to the government of Jean Castex to present the conclusions on Thursday.

This involves in particular taking stock of the end-of-year celebrations and assessing its impact on the Covid-19 epidemic.
