The actor's work team revealed the news, noting that Dustin will give more information when he can and when there is a plan to deal with it.

On January 8, actor

Dustin Diamond

, who played the character of Screech in the popular nineties series 'Saved by the Bell', was admitted to a hospital in Florida due to the severe pain he was suffering.

After the pertinent studies, it was revealed that the 44-year-old artist suffers from cancer and is in an advanced state, specifically in phase 4, so he will have to start chemotherapy treatment.

"We confirm that Dustin has cancer. Dustin will give more information when he can and when there is a plan to deal with it," says a statement signed by his team.

According to one of Diamond's representatives, he will stay in the hospital for at least one more week until he can go home, but he will most likely have to undergo several chemotherapy sessions. "

"Next week we will understand much better the severity of your condition and the treatments you will need to relieve your pain," he added.

"We ask everyone to respect their privacy during these tough times. Positivity and prayers are appreciated," the statement concludes.

The representative told 'Entertainment Weekly' that when the actor entered the hospital he was very ill, because he could not even remain conscious.

"He was in and out of himself, he felt sleepy and tired. On top of all this, he also has herpes, so he has been in a lot of pain."

However, he confirmed that by this Thursday, he was already feeling a little better.

Dustin Diamond rose to fame thanks to his role in 'Saved by the Bell', where he played Screech, Zack Morris' friend, played by

Mark-Paul Gosselaar

.

When the original series ended, Dustin was incorporated into its sequel, 'Saved by the Bell: The College Years', where his character returned to the center where he studied as part of his university training, and would end up becoming an assistant director.

Although she had some appearances on television, what was most talked about was her participation in a porn video, in 2006, to relaunch her career.

This one was directed by himself, but in an interview he admitted that it was not him during the most explicit scenes, but a stuntman.

In 2009 the actor published 'Behind the Bell', the story of the cast of the

show

, in which he portrayed several of the actors in a negative light.

In 2013 he admitted that the book was made by a writer who interviewed him and compiled the book from his responses.

For this very reason many parts of the book were fabricated from statements he made.
