In the World Cup, a weekend has arrived entirely reserved for technical competitions, giant slalom and special slalom.

In Kranjska Gora - who took over from Maribor due to lack of snow - tomorrow giant and Sunday special.

In Flachau - replaced by the virus in Kitzbuehel which in turn caused the pandemic had taken the place of Wengen, two special slaloms.

Precisely in Kitzbuehel - the world capital of alpine skiing which has already had to suffer the shame of this cancellation - there are feverish moments of anxiety: the fear is that the covid may also blow up the two descents and the super-G scheduled in eight days on the mythical Streif.

This would be disastrous for the Austrian image: but, obviously, you can't joke with the covid or put the athletes' health at risk and with them also the holding of the February World Championships in Cortina So in Kitzubuehel and surroundings one is starting one mass screening which in a few days includes 70,000 swabs to verify the spread of the pandemic.

At the origin of it all is a large group of British holiday-goers who have arrived at a hotel near Kitzbuehel and passed as ski instructors in training.

    The virus outbreak was found.

For Italy, the two races of tomorrow are definitely the most interesting.

In fact, in the Kranjska giant there are Federica Brignone and Marta Bassino as top athletes in the world.

It is no coincidence that the two lead in order the general classification of giant respectively with 205 and 200 points.

Above all, the blue will have to deal with a Mikaela Shiffrin who is increasingly in shape as the World Cup is approaching, her true goal of the season.

In Flachau, on a track that is not steep and not difficult, the young Alex Vinatzer will again be the top Italian athlete.

The 19-year-old Alex has had an exciting but two-sided season so far: two splendid podiums in the first two races but two consecutive forks in the other last two.

With him the most regular is still the veteran Manfred Molegg, an athlete always very solid despite his 38 years.
