Facebook postpones the new privacy terms for WhatsApp to May 15, effectively giving users three more months to review and accept them.

The announcement follows the rain of criticism rained on the messaging app for updating the privacy policy and the escape from the service to the rivals Signal and Telegram.

WhatsApp initially set the deadline for reviewing and accepting the update of the privacy policy at 8 February, under penalty of suspension or deletion of the account.

Now, however, the company announces that it will invite its "users to review the information before May 15, when the new business options will be available".

The decision is linked to the "confusion" that has been created, explains WhatsApp, clarifying that "the latest update does not change anything" of the fundamental concept of the company.

The app "is built on a simple concept: Everything you share with family and friends stays between you. This means that we will continue to protect your personal conversations with end-to-end encryption," explains WhatsApp.

The latest update "doesn't change any of this" but includes "new optional options that allow users to exchange messages with companies that use WhatsApp and offer greater transparency on how we collect and use data. With this update, no increases our ability to share information with Facebook ".

"We will continue - observes the company - to do our best to make WhatsApp the best way to communicate privately".
