After a cancellation by the city, demonstrators in Nuremberg apparently want to disguise a rally against corona measures as a church service.
Next Sunday they want to gather in front of a church in the city.
The church warned of false worship services and distanced itself from the event.
The city itself also clearly rejected the project.
Nuremberg's Lord Mayor, Marcus König (CSU), found clear words.
"On the question of whether the lateral thinker demo on Sunday can take place disguised as a church service: The city of # Nürnberg points out that such events are inadmissible as a circumvention of the existing ban and are prevented by the police," wrote the politician on Twitter.
In the middle of last week, Nuremberg had banned several meetings registered for Sunday.
Accordingly, it is to be expected that conditions such as the mask requirement and the distance rules will be disregarded at the rallies.
That would not only endanger the health of the demonstrators, but everyone.
The city justified the ban with events in Nuremberg at the beginning of January, when a similar demonstration had already taken place.
There were numerous violations of applicable hygiene measures - among other things, people did not keep their distance and sometimes did not wear masks.
In order to circumvent the ban, the demonstrators now want to take advantage of a supposed loophole.
In Bavaria, church services in the open air are not subject to any restriction on the number of participants.
They are considered a valid reason to leave the house even during an exit restriction.
The church clearly distanced itself from the plan to declare the event as a service.
"We, the Protestant and Catholic Church in Nuremberg, condemn the abuse of the term worship," said a joint press release by the Protestant and Catholic city dean.
The Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office in Nuremberg wrote on Facebook that corona deniers wanted to use the "worship service label" for themselves.
»Please don't go and support!
We as church (s) in Nuremberg have nothing to do with it! «It continued.
In addition, the dean's office posted several angry smileys.
In the comments on the post, people thanked them for the explanation.
“It is unbearable that the faith is abused in such a way.
Being a Christian and acting with such lack of solidarity don't go together, «wrote one user.
