It happens again and again that people involuntarily have to wait for hours in the transit area of airports because of failures or delays.

In Chicago, on the other hand, a man stayed in the cordoned off area for months - apparently voluntarily.

As US media unanimously report, according to the current status of the investigation, the 36-year-old has been in a secure area of O'Hare Airport since October 19.

It was not discovered until January 16.

The long stay was apparently made possible because the man had come into possession of an employee's access card that he had lost.

The permanent guest would probably have continued his stay at the airport.

On Saturday he was finally found during a personal check.

The lost ID was noticed and the man was taken into custody.

The 36-year-old later stated that he found the ID and was afraid to go home because of the corona pandemic.

Other passengers would have given him food.

The man was reportedly charged with staying illegally in a cordoned off area of the airport and committed theft.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the man actually lives in Los Angeles and is unemployed.

$ 1,000 deposit and airport ban

In order to be released, he now has to leave a deposit of $ 1,000, but he is not allowed to enter the airport.

"The court finds it very shocking that this has happened over such a long period of time," said the judge responsible.

The airport administration said, however, that it was certain that "this man did not pose a threat to the airport or the passengers."

However, investigate further.

Last year a German spent two months undetected at an Indian airport.

Apparently he had left his home to avoid punishment.

The man at the Chicago airport, however, is reported to have no criminal record.
