Apparently everyone who lived in Israel in the 80s and 90s had ever heard of Lapland.

Not necessarily because of its amazing attractions, unique natural phenomena or magical, breathtaking landscapes, but thanks to a boy named Nils Holgerson, who receives punishment from an elf, becomes a dwarf and with wild geese takes off on a wonderful journey to this unique territory, located at the northern tip of Finland. With Sweden and Norway, with the aim of removing the curse.

But Lapland, as mentioned, is far beyond the target in a mythological animated series.

The largest of the 19 regions of Finland is also where the Arctic Circle, which defines the North Pole, passes.

North of this imaginary line, which crosses the airport of Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, there is the phenomenon of "midnight sun", when in summer the sun hardly sets at all and in winter it sometimes does not shine.

Lapland is also home to the northernmost point in the EU and the whole region offers a variety of unique winter experiences, combining light modernity with the traditional Laps / Sami, natives of the place.

So if you have always loved Nils, and if you feel like embarking on a wonderful journey - Lapland is the destination and to really get to know her, join an organized and quality trip, like the one offered by Pegasus.

With the help of an Israeli guide who knows the place, you can focus on the best that Lapland has to offer and enjoy the company you will know throughout the trip.

In an organized trip you do not have to worry about how you will get from one attraction to another or when and where you buy tickets and when everything is open - they will take care of everything for you, so that the day after the corona you can spend peace of mind.

So here are some of the most interesting things to see and do in it.

Santa Claus Park and the Arctic

Countless children around the world believe that the home of Santa Claus, the man and Christmas, is located in the North Pole, in the Arctic Circle area.

Belfland decided to take advantage of this and like some other cities in Scandinavia and the surrounding area, they set up the "Village of Santa Claus", a classic but especially fun tourist trap, the most familiar and successful of all those versions.

The village of Santa Claus is located right next to Rovaniemi and you will find a wide range of options, including the post office from which you can send letters to Santa with a request for holiday gifts, a variety of shops, dog sledding or elk sledding and of course - a meeting with the man and the old man himself.

And if you have already come this far and you want to enter a warmer place, then within Rovaniemi itself is the Arctic, a museum and a brilliant science center where you can learn everything you wanted about life and people in the Arctic.

Inari Lake and the Northern Lights

A few hours drive north of the capital will take you to the best vantage point in Finland for those who want to see the familiar Northern Lights phenomenon.

Lake Inari is the largest in Lapland and one of the largest in the entire country and it freezes completely every year, during the winter and spring months.

Of course before making your way to the lake you need to make sure that you get to it at the right time in order to see the phenomenon, but either way you will find many attractions like boating and fishing.

Snow Palace

On the shores of the Gulf of Botany, where the bravest of you can also go swimming in the icy water, lies this wonder, a palace (or fortress if you will) the largest snow in the world.

Every year since 1996, the diligent workers come to the town of Cami and rebuild the palace, each time in a different style.

They do maintain a number of key attractions in the place, such as a church, restaurant and even a hotel, all of ice.

Dress well!

The frozen waterfalls in the Kuruama Reserve

A 100 km drive in a southeasterly direction from Rovaniemi will take you to a place you really do not see every day. The length of the Koruama Reserve is about 30 km and crosses it into two parts a wide and deep canyon (about 130 meters), at the bottom of which you will discover The Korujuki River.

This special natural configuration has evolved over the years and created, among other things, waterfalls, in which the falling water freezes with the onset of the cold season, leading to frozen waterfalls, as if time has stopped reigning.

The waterfalls remain in this state until the end of spring, so the water flow is slowly renewed and the whole reserve is sometimes reminiscent of a scene from "Frozen".

An amazing natural phenomenon.

Moose elk farm

There are currently about two million people living in Lapland ... and about two million reindeer.

Moose are a critical part of Lapland's life and residents use them for food, milk, clothing and even transportation.

So, it's not surprising to find that just like Santa Claus, you too can befriend these beautiful animals and even embark on an exciting sleigh ride.

You will find reindeer farms in Rovaniemi, as well as quite a few different points around Lapland.

Do not miss this experience.

Ranua Zoo

For dessert, drive an hour south of Rovaniemi to this charming zoo.

As befits the place where it is located (the second northernmost zoo in the world), it presents you with about 50 wildlife that live in the cold regions, from polar bears and reindeer to Husky dogs, wolves, foxes and various arctic birds.

In Israel it is almost always warm and pleasant, so it is not time to change the atmosphere and weather a bit?

Of course it is.

If we have also made you want to discover the wonderful Lapland, you should know that it can now be reached easily, with Pegasus Tours, which offers fascinating tours all over the world.

Yes, even in the village of Santa Claus.

With Pegasus you can go on an unforgettable six-day trip to Lapland, including a tour of Helsinki even and all of course with a close, Israeli guide, who knows the area perfectly, and with experiences and explanations.
