The judge: 'The leader of the League is a senator, the Prime Minister spoke to the Chamber of Deputies' (ANSA)

The question of legitimate impediment raised by the defense of Matteo Salvini for today's hearing in the trial in which the leader of the League is accused of insulting the judiciary was rejected by the Turin Court.

The lawyer Claudia Eccher had motivated the matter with the fact that Salvini, defined by her as "head of the center-right", was unable to participate due to commitments linked to the current political situation.

Judge Roberto Ruscello decided otherwise and ordered the continuation of the hearing, which resumed with the testimony of Alessandro Canelli, mayor of Novara.

The lawyer Eccher, after reiterating that Salvini intends to be present at the trial and to be questioned, observed that he is "the head of the center-right", the secretary of the League, and is busy at the "tables" in which the developments of the situation are examined politics, in particular the communications of Prime Minister Conte.

Reasons that judge Ruscello did not consider sufficient.

The magistrate pointed out that the impediment of a parliamentarian is linked to the inability to participate in the debate in the classroom and to exercise the right to vote, and noted that the Prime Minister spoke to the Chamber of Deputies while Salvini is a member of the Senate.

The leader of the Lega is called to respond in court to some sentences I pronounced in 2016 in Collegno, in the Turin hinterland, during the Piedmontese congress of the party.
