In light of the hospitalization of several pregnant women who are in a serious condition after being infected with Corona - the Ministry of Health has approved the HMOs to start vaccinating pregnant women of all ages.

The move came in the wake of the publication of the position paper stating that pregnant women can be vaccinated.

A position paper published by the National Council for Gynecology, the Israeli Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Association of Fertility Specialists and the Society for Maternal and Fetal Medicine states that corona infection during pregnancy can cause more serious illness and preterm birth, so it is important to get vaccinated.

"There is no evidence that the corona vaccine harms male or female fertility, and it is recommended that women and couples undergoing fertility treatment be vaccinated," it said.

"Pregnant women who are interested in this can be vaccinated, especially if they are at high risk for exposure to the virus and it is recommended that breastfeeding women also be allowed to be vaccinated against corona."

One of the myths associated with the corona vaccine was that it impairs fertility and women planning a pregnancy are not recommended to be vaccinated.

Experts note that "there is no known or described in the scientific literature a mechanism or mechanism or even a claim for the possibility of harm to female fertility."

As mentioned, in recent days four cases of pregnant women who were infected in Corona and were in critical condition have been reported.

Experts note that studies show that pregnant women infected with corona, especially women with background diseases, are at increased risk for respiratory complications, to the point of needing respiration and blood clotting disorders.

Preliminary findings suggest that corona infection increases the risk of preterm birth and the need for hospitalization of the newborn.

Regarding the vaccination of pregnant women - Council members noted that vaccination should be allowed for pregnant women, especially if they are at risk of exposure to the virus or suffer from a background illness and after consultation with the attending physician.

"A pregnant woman who adheres to the rules of distance, and has no high risk of exposure to the virus can opt for a postponement of the vaccine to the second trimester of pregnancy or after childbirth."

It added that "the council recommends completing both vaccines before starting fertility treatments and before getting pregnant."

The position paper is signed by Prof. Eliezer Shalev, Chairman of the National Council for Gynecology, Neontology and Genetics, Prof. Roni Maimon, Chairman of the Israeli Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Prof. Adrian Shulman, Chairman of ILA (Israeli Fertility Association), Prof. Yoav Yinon, Chairman of the Israel Society of Maternal and Fetal Medicine, and Dr. Rinat Gabay, member of the Society for Maternal and Fetal Society.
