In the Corona crisis, many companies have to accept economic losses.
Employees are therefore hesitant with the planned salary negotiation.
Right?
The corona crisis continues to have a
strong impact
on employees and employers.
While companies have to deal with the home office question *, the question of
job security
dominates among employees
.
The online job portal
Stepstone found this out
in a large-scale survey.
Further findings from the study also show how employees deal with the question of
salary negotiations
.

Understanding among employees
The
Stepstone
survey of September and October 2020, which was conducted online, has some data from which
interesting conclusions
can be drawn.
For example, 65 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with their salary - an increase of 10 percent compared to the beginning of the year.
And the reason is not a widespread increase in salaries.
Rather, the experts attribute the increase to a
change in priorities
.
Because of the Corona crisis,
people are weighting
fundamental
job security
higher than they were before the pandemic.
Correspondingly, three quarters of those surveyed stated that they place more value on job security than on salary.
In addition, according to
Business Insider
,
60 percent of the survey participants said
that they currently
understand the lack of salary increases
.
Almost every second employee even postponed the originally planned salary negotiation.

Postponing the salary negotiation - justified?
The
Stepstone
experts
give
a somewhat
surprising answer to
this question
: For many employers it is justified to forego the question of a salary increase because the
financial situation is really tense
in many places
.
But this is not the case for all companies and industries.
Because many employers have a
shortage of skilled workers
even during the Corona crisis
.
In the survey, 60 percent of those questioned stated that they would not have had to accept any loss of salary when changing jobs.
The Expert Council recommends: Employees should
not underestimate
their own significance and importance for a company
and should voluntarily forego their salaries
.
On the other hand, companies should be as transparent as possible with their salary structure in order to remain competitive even after the crisis.
