Christopher Landau, the last US ambassador to Mexico, says goodbye to his post.
During the last four years, the tense diplomatic relations between the two countries represented a complex task for the diplomat, representative of the Trump Administration in Mexico.
Despite this, the ambassador has managed to win the favor of social networks and, therefore, of public opinion as someone respectful and admirer of the culture and traditions of Mexico.
"A good diplomat removes the weeds and sows the seeds for future success (...) During my tenure in Mexico I have tried to be a good and supportive gardener," he wrote by way of farewell to
El Universal
.
The diplomat has rarely entered the rag in political discussions, despite the tense moments that both countries have experienced with migration, security and trade.
During all this time, he has been able to stick to much kinder subjects for the public.
The political communication and the use that he has given to Twitter, have been totally opposite to those of his boss, Donald Trump, now without an account on the social network.

The key to the relationship with his more than 280,000 followers has earned Landau the title of "tweet ambassador."
In all, he wrote 7,784 tweets since 2016, he has been

on 73,798 occasions and has followed 93 people among which some Mexican institutions, politicians, journalists, youtubers and the wife of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, among others.
His attitude eating tacos on the street or buying handicrafts with his family in a town in Tlaxcala has generated a feeling of closeness with the people that "erases the distance with cyber-citizens and helps them get off the pedestal,"

How could it be otherwise, Landau wanted to show the move that he is doing and all the souvenirs and crafts that he will take from his stay in Mexico.
"Communication processes are changing and politicians have to change their ways of interacting with people," says Urquijo.
Hence, the strategy of sharing moments of the ambassador with his wife and children has been so applauded.
