The map of social media in the world shows a division into three large blocks: the East, the territories of the former Soviet Union and the rest of the globe.

With Facebook dominating in 154 of the 167 countries analyzed, V Kontakte in Russia and WeChat in China.

It is periodically elaborated by the social media expert Vincenzo Cosenza, author of the blog Vincos.it.

"One wonders - observes Cosenza - if this division into blocks does not prelude to an increasingly fragmented network or to different internet, corresponding to geo-political logics rather than to real service needs", what the Anglo-Saxons have baptized " Splinternet ", adds the expert The analysis shows that the most important region for Zuckerberg's social network is Asia, which represents about half of the active population of the social network (approximately 1.2 billion are monthly active users) and which does not seem to have reached a plateau yet.

Instead, Europe has reached saturation (413 million monthly active users) and is no longer growing, while the United States and Canada (255 million monthly active users) have also lost two million daily users (now 196 million).

Zuckerberg's empire also manages to find a space in Iran, where Instagram prevails.

The territories of the former Soviet Union have been completely conquered by V Kontakte, launched by Pavel Durov, the current founder and CEO of Telegram, who claims to have 400 million registered users.

In China - Cosenza continues - the favorite social network is WeChat which has over 1.2 billion active users per month.

It is part of the portfolio of the giant Tencent, owner of numerous digital companies that deal with everything: music, video, e-commerce, finance, games.

"Another white fly in the East is Japan, where Twitter is preferred to Facebook, although in the last year Instagram has begun to attract many young people", concludes the expert.
