Tourism.

The Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art, located at the top of the Carmel, is dedicated to the display and preservation of Japanese artefacts and is one of a kind in the Middle East.

The museum was opened in 1960 at the initiative of Felix Tikotin from the Netherlands, a Japanese art collector, and the then mayor of Haifa, Abba Hushi.

Felix Tikotin, an architect by profession, became a world-renowned Japanese art dealer and collector.

For over 40 years he has collected valuable and unique handicrafts and organized Japanese art exhibitions in many museums.

During World War II, Tikotin fled the Nazis and hid his collections in the Netherlands.

After the war, he decided that the collection had a special purpose and should be in Israel, thus establishing Felix Tikotin's connection with the city of Haifa.

The Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art is currently marking its 60th anniversary with a series of events, and ahead of the opening of two new and special exhibitions to mark the 60th anniversary of the museum.

The new exhibits will open immediately when the still-closed museums can be opened due to the Corona plague.

Until then, hop with us to "Japan" for an interesting art tour today at 1 p.m.
