She became famous in 1967 for her role in "The Ice Cold Angel", which was her first ever film appearance.
The film by French master thriller director Jean-Pierre Melville is considered one of the great cinematographic works of art of the genre.
Nathalie Delon can be seen at the side of her then husband Alain Delon.
Her son Anthony also comes from the relationship with the movie star.
In 1972 Nathalie Delon played in the thriller "Bluebeard" by the US director Edward Dmytryk and in the comedy "Are you interested in the matter?"
Delon also worked as a screenwriter and director.
In 1988 she directed the film "Sweet Lies" with Treat Williams in the lead role.
Delon was born Francine Canovas in Oujda, Morocco in 1941 and came to Paris in the early 1960s.
There Alain Delon fell in love with the young woman, for whom he finally left Romy Schneider.
The two went to the US together, but their relationship only lasted five years.
As reported by the French news agency AFP, Nathalie Delon died on Thursday in Paris with her family of complications from cancer.
She was 79 years old.
