In Neumünster, a 24-year-old man got off the street with his car and drove into a group of pedestrians.
A 34-year-old and a 30-year-old woman died in the accident, a police spokesman said in the morning.
The two fatalities were reportedly a couple.
A 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
How it came to the accident on Wednesday evening is still unclear, it said.
The 24-year-old first hit a tree and two concrete bollards with his car and then slipped into the group that was walking there.
According to the first findings of the police, the driver was unharmed.
