More than 27 years after a violent crime against a 13-year-old, investigators in Bavaria have announced an investigation.
A suspect was provisionally arrested, the police and the public prosecutor announced on Thursday in a joint press release.
The 44-year-old comes from the Main-Spessart district in the north-west of the state.
The investigators searched a property there on Wednesday.
The possible motive of the man, who was 17 years old at the time of the crime, is still unclear.
Searching for the girl for days
The girl was last seen on December 15, 1993 on a farm in Wiesenfeld (Main-Spessart district).
Search parties and local people combed the area for two days.
The girl's body was found in a manure pit on the farm that was closed with a heavy concrete cover.
It was killed by massive violence.
After the fact, a 15-year-old was arrested.
However, a court later acquitted the youths of manslaughter.
