(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 22 - Cecilia Mangini died at the age of 93.
She was a pioneer documentary director of the genre, a true pioneer of the cinema of reality. She was born in Nola di Bari on 31 July 1927 and the theme of the South was at the center of her first works before her interest in politics, with her husband Lino Miccichè, took her elsewhere: All'armi siamfascisti !, the film of the ' 62 which brought it to the Venice Film Festival and aroused a series of controversies and a heavy passage to censorship. Being Women, in 1964, was one of the first films to document the female condition of those years.
With Fata Morgana she was awarded in Venice. She herself in 2013 was the protagonist of a documentary, Traveling with Cecilia, directed by Mariangela Barbanente. (HANDLE).
