It could be faster with the vaccination - many people are currently thinking that.

In particular, people aged 80 and over in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, where vaccinations have not even started outside of nursing homes.

If you ask the federal states what is currently the biggest obstacle to vaccination, the answer is clear: the shortage of the vaccine.

In many places, the vaccination centers are, so to speak, in waiting position: Ready to go but not ready for use due to a lack of vaccine.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) had initially recommended that the second dose should be taken for each person before the first vaccination, so that the second vaccination can definitely take place.

Keeping stocks naturally means that even fewer vaccination appointments can be assigned - but in view of current delivery difficulties on the part of the manufacturers there are also arguments for this approach.

In the meantime, Stiko no longer gives this recommendation, but leaves it to the organizers as to how they plan.
