Hotel »Zum Türken«: »Time travel through a dreamlike landscape«

The hotel "Zum Türken" on Obersalzberg, where Adolf Hitler used to stay, has been sold.
A family of entrepreneurs from Berchtesgaden acquired the historic property, but did not want to be named, according to several media reports.
"The new owners were with us and inquired about the possible structural use," said the municipality's manager, Anton Kurz, on request.
The community will be involved in the decision on further use.
What this should look like and what the new owners are planning is still open.
The hotel and the attached bunker system was offered for sale by the international real estate agent Sotheby's International Realty in February 2020 - for 3.65 million euros.
What was actually paid is not known.
Accommodation for the Reich Security Service, SS and Gestapo
The auction house “Sotheby's International Realty” had raved about the property a year ago.
On the company's website there was talk of a »journey through time through a dreamlike landscape«, of an »extraordinarily beautiful property«.
The house, built in 1911, has retained its charm.
The name "Hitler" did not appear in the offer.
With a view of the Alpine peaks, Hitler not only received guests in the hotel, but also made decisions about life and death at what is actually the second seat of government next to Berlin.
The dictator gave speeches there and spent the night in the neighboring Berghof estate, which was blown up after the war.
Among other things, the Reich Security Service responsible for Hitler's personal protection was housed in the Hotel Zum Türken, as well as members of the SS and the Gestapo at times.
There are Nazi bunkers under the inn - but they were never used.
Nevertheless, they were gladly visited, the landlady once told SPIEGEL that the walls had to be whitewashed regularly because visitors smeared "To hell with Eva Braun" or: "Heil Hitler, you old Germans."
Last year, everyone involved, from the community to the management of the neighboring National Socialist Documentation Center and the Bavarian Memorials Foundation to the Ministry of Finance, made it clear that the property does not fall into the wrong hands and that it becomes an attraction for rights.
"A sale of the historically contaminated property", so it said at the time in a communication from the ministry, "should only be made to responsible hands."
