In Venice the Mose rises, floods and fallen trees in Rome. Stop the ferries to the island of Elba (ANSA)

Bad weather weekend in Italy: rain, wind and snow hit many regions.

Red alert today in Emilia.

Orange in Romagna, Liguria and Tuscany.

Yellow in 12 other regions: Abruzzo, Basilicata, Campania, Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Marche, Molise, Sardinia, Trentino Alto Adige, Umbria and Veneto.

The persistence of adverse marine weather conditions on the upper Adriatic led to the decision to

raise the Mose barriers in Venice

.

The system went into operation about two hours before midnight.

The office of the Extraordinary Commissioner for Mose specifies this on its website.

The monitoring of the evolution of bad weather conditions - it is emphasized - will also continue for the next few days, in order to verify the possibility, if necessary, of new lifting of the Mose system.

For this morning, around 6 am, a 115 centimeter high water tip is expected in Venice.

Flooding in various areas of Rome

due to the heavy rains of the last few hours.

During the night, patrols of the Local Police were engaged in various areas of the city.

The main interventions were recorded in the Tiburtina, Prenestina, Tiberina, Cassia, Appia, Collatina areas.

On the Via Collatina, due to the substantial flooding of a large stretch, the closure intervention was necessary around 3.30.

At the moment the surveillance and monitoring activities by the patrols are continuing in the areas most affected by bad weather.

For a few hours, many interventions by the Local Police have been concentrating on verifying reports for fallen branches.

In particular, on the Cassia, at the height of the Formellese, a tree falls which at the moment is not causing inconvenience to traffic.

For now there is no damage to property or people.

The ferries to the island of Elba (Livorno) are

stopped due to adverse weather conditions in the Piombino canal: this morning at 5, the captain's office explains, only the first two races managed to start, one from Portoferraio and the other from Piombino (Livorno), then the stop.

Same problems also at the port of Livorno, as reported by the Avvisatore Marittimo, where with 35 knots of wind from the southwest with gusts up to 40 (about 80 km per hour) the port traffic is practically stopped: a dozen large ships are still to park in 'drifting' in the harbor, while the ferry to the island of Capraia remained at the dock.

In the morning a slight improvement is expected to return to the current wind conditions in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, there are about twenty for the moment, since late yesterday evening, the interventions of the firefighters mostly in Livorno but also in the province for the removal of fallen trees, unsafe branches, tiles, cornices or plaster damaged by the gusts of libeccio .

Also in Livorno this morning due to the storm warning, a stretch of the seafront is forbidden.

The latest monitoring bulletin of the regional civil protection system, explained by the Municipality, reports a stationary wave motion or in further slight temporary attenuation, but a new increase is likely from the afternoon, with wave heights up to 4 meters or higher on the Archipelago and locally on the north-central coast.

There are gusts of libeccio up to 80-110 km / h on the islands and up to 70-90 km / h on the coast.

Some discomfort also in Marina di di Pisa due to the storm but the coast had been closed to traffic as a precaution with warning. (ANSA).

In Modena

during the night, around one o'clock, due to the rising levels of the rivers, the

Ponte Alto sul Secchia and the Uccellino bridge, again on the Secchia, between Modena and Soliera

were

closed as a precaution

.

This was made known by the Modena municipal administration.

The Panaro river is also reaching levels around threshold 2 and, like on the Secchia, the monitoring services started in the early hours of the morning have been activated.

The alert situation is caused by the ongoing rainfall, even in the Upper Apennines, and is linked to the melting of the snowpack that helps to feed the waterways.

The situation of the Modenese hydraulic node is monitored with the coordination of the single integrated operations room in Marzaglia.

Two meetings of the Rescue Coordination Center called by the prefecture have already been held on Friday evening and the Coc, the Municipal Operations Center, has been activated together with the Civil Protection volunteers for monitoring the embankments.

(HANDLE).

The Aurelia state road 1 was closed to traffic in both directions in the municipality of Sestri Levante (Genoa)

, near the S. Anna tunnel, due to the storm that flooded a stretch of the road about 400 meters long.

Traffic is diverted on site to the only connecting route, the A12 motorway.

The flood of the Magra river

last night overwhelmed the remains of the Albiano Magra bridge in Aulla (Massa Carrara), which collapsed on April 8, 2020, also dragging away the red courier van that was involved in the collapse.

Several landslides that even during the night affected some roads in Val di Vara, in La Spezia.

The announced

maxi snowfall in the Dolomites

causes not only traffic problems, but also for cross-country skiing enthusiasts. The Alemagna state road is currently closed for safety reasons, but the Dobbiaco-Cortina granfondo, scheduled this morning on the track parallel to the state road, has also been canceled.

Many inconveniences caused by this abundant disturbance, which forced the organizing committee to cancel the race scheduled for today, Saturday 23 January 2021, relating to the 42 km in classic technique reserved for athletes of national interest. A cancellation due to the closure of the road that leads from Dobbiaco to Cortina and above all due to the high avalanche danger index that could occur along the route. The organizing committee is committed to doing everything possible to allow the competitors of today's race to start tomorrow's classic technique race.

As the provincial meteorologist Dieter Peterlin informs, in the past few hours between 15 and 40 cm of snow have fallen in the San Candido area mixed with rain. Weather conditions should improve as the day progresses.
