A hotel in
Puerto Iguazú
decided to permanently close
its doors and the owner organized
an auction of furniture
and other objects
through social networks
.
After ten months, the level of influx of tourists in Cataratas is barely 10 percent compared to the same month last year and many who lived from the industry without chimneys no longer have any economic rest to endure.
The Iguazú Natural Hotel
was a small but cozy accommodation
that operated on Córdoba Avenue, very close to the Bus Terminal.
Until the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the occupancy level of its nine rooms was always high,
but everything changed in March of last year
for Jorge Burton and his family.
The Iguazú Natural Hotel in Puerto Iguazú closed its doors due to the tourism crisis due to the pandemic.
The
house with pool, tropical garden and bar
gave tourists a dream place.
All that went down in history because Burton could not see the light at the end of the tunnel and decided to call an auction to get rid
of bedding, furniture, refrigerators, washing machines, kitchen utensils
.
The man swears that it was not difficult for him to make the decision, but it is hard to believe him.
The hotelier joined a Facebook page for buying and selling Puerto Iguazú and three weeks later made the call.
In a few hours, the place was empty and perhaps waiting for another entrepreneur in love with the city of the Falls.
Burton has lived in Iguazú for 17 years.
"We
survive by selling our things
in the hope that tourism will be renewed in July, then in September, then in summer, but it seems that 2021 is going to be even worse. To continue would have meant to continue losing money because today we don't even have 10 percent of the usual movement of a month of January, "he told the site Lavozdecataratas.com.
Burton was renting the place and the owners stopped charging him last April, but it wasn't enough to keep the business going.
The businessman highlighted the help that ATPs meant for the sector, but it was not enough.
The hotelier assured that for now he will live off the production of a farm that he has in the peripheral area of the city and ruled out investing again.
"I am not going to start another venture from nothing, never again in this country," said lapidario.
The economic blow that the cancellation of tourist trips meant for Puerto Iguazú is seen in every block.
The stores dedicated to the sale of souvenirs closed their doors, as did almost half of the hotels.
They expect a greater influx to start working and try to recover what was lost in 2020.
