Real puzzle in Italy.

Depending on the seriousness of the health situation of each, the regions of the country are divided into three types (yellow, orange and red) with, for each zone, more or less severe constraints.

But what happens when the numbers are out of date?

This is the bitter experience of the inhabitants of Lombardy who were simply confined for a whole week… by mistake.

Economic heart of northern Italy, with Milan as the capital, Lombardy was classified as a "red zone" a week ago.

But this classification was made on the basis of erroneous figures, communicated on January 13 by the regional government of Lombardy.

The rate of reproduction of the virus - which is the criteria determining the classification of the various regions of the country - had quite simply been… overestimated.

Largely greater than 1, it suggested that the virus was spreading very quickly.

10,000 businesses had to close

The Italian government rectified the error on Saturday by signing a new decree removing Lombardy from the "red zone" to bring it, from Sunday, into the "orange zone".

The situation, although unusual, is not trivial for the inhabitants.

The Il Post reminds us that, although bars and restaurants remain closed in the orange zone, stores remain open.

According to the Repubblica newspaper, 10,000 businesses had to close on January 17, in the midst of the sales period.

On Sunday, Sardinia will also switch from “red zone” to “orange zone”, which will now concern a total of 14 Italian regions.

Sicily (south) and the autonomous province of Bolzano (north) remain classified in the “red” category.

Five regions least affected by the epidemic, currently classified "yellow" like Tuscany, have been able to reopen their museums for a week.
