Do you suffer from food or respiratory allergies?
They are not an obstacle to vaccination against the coronavirus, wishes to reassure Frédéric de Blay, president of the French Federation of Allergology who granted us an interview.
For the pulmonologist and allergist at Strasbourg University Hospital, there are four situations which should lead patients to consult their allergist: "patients who have had an allergic reaction to the first injection of the Covid-19 vaccine, those who have had a severe reaction to an injectable product, a severe reaction to a vaccine or to a drug whose name they have forgotten ”.
If, on the other hand, you are allergic to cat hair, dust mites or eggs, "it is not necessary to go to an allergist", explains Frédéric de Blay.
One of the hypotheses to explain the cases of allergic reactions observed around the world relates to the presence in vaccines of two substances: PEG (polyethylene glycol) and polysorbate, which are found in Pfizer & BioNtech vaccines and Moderna and AstraZeneca.
“For now, we don't know more.
But if you are allergic to polyethylene glycol (or) polysorbate, it is worth going to be tested at your allergist.
