There are few newspapers that have such a reputation.
Rested, incorruptible, sometimes a bit slow, always demanding and serious - with these values the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” (“NZZ”) has made a name for itself in Switzerland and throughout the German-speaking region.
The »NZZ« read not only those who found themselves in the market-liberal, moderately conservative positions of the paper, but all those who value high culture, internationality and expertise.
Those who subscribed to the »NZZ« did so primarily because of its consistency.
But this consistency has come under pressure in recent years.
Since the former Germany correspondent Eric Gujer took over the editor-in-chief in spring 2015, “the old aunt”, as the paper is affectionately known in Switzerland, has been subject to constant changes.
While in Switzerland veteran editors - as they are called in Switzerland -
quit, the politically sharpened business in Germany expands.
The online subscriptions generated there are becoming increasingly important, while the importance of Swiss print subscribers is decreasing in comparison.
