A man was traveling in the wrong direction on the A19 at up to 170 km / h. The police had to use several patrol cars to stop the odyssey.

On Saturday night a 35-year-old man drove into the wrong direction on Autobahn 19 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Police officers had to chase the drunk wrong-way driver with several patrol cars for around 55 kilometers before they could stop him.

The 35-year-old had driven onto the A19 between the Glasewitz and Güstrow junctions, over a dirt road and a wilderness fence.

When officers from the motorway police tried to stop him, he accelerated and tried to escape, the police said.

The man had a speed of up to 170 kilometers per hour, and he had switched on his hazard warning lights, the high beam and the rear fog light, as it says in a police report.

Only after the long persecution could the 35-year-old be stopped near the Röbel junction.

The emergency services assume that the man was under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.

A breath test showed a value of 0.83 per thousand.

In addition, the driver does not have a driver's license.

The man, who comes from the Güstrow district, was charged with endangering road traffic, driving without a driver's license, unauthorized use of a vehicle and violation of the Narcotics Act.

In addition, a criminal complaint for fleeing an accident was recorded.

In order to stop the wrong-way driver, the A19 in the direction of Rostock had to be completely closed for a short time.

Fortunately, according to the police, there was hardly any traffic on the motorway at the time of the incident and nobody was injured.

The criminal police took over the further investigation.
