(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 24 - Walter Bernstein, American screenwriter, as well as director, author of over ninety films, died at the age of 101. The announcement of his death, which took place on January 22, was given by his wife to CNN.
Among his screenplays is The figurehead, starring Woody Allen and directed by Martin Ritt, which earned him an Oscar nomination in 1977. He also wrote Il diavolo incalzoncini rosa, a 1959 film directed by George Cukor with Sophia Loren, and Sidney Lumet's Quel type di donna, also with the Italian actress. (HANDLE).
