The National Meteorological Service (SMN) published this morning a purple warning in the central strip of the country, which aroused curiosity, what does it mean and why was that color chosen to give the news?

The heat hit hard from the early hours of this Sunday.

Especially for the area of the City of Buenos Aires

where the thermometer read 34.8 ° at 4:00 p.m., but the thermal sensation exceeded 35.

As a result of this, the SMN launched two communications: the first was about an orange alert for a heat wave that began on Friday and

lasted

until this Sunday,

for which it met the requirement of three consecutive days with minimums not less than 22ºC and maximums that exceed 32.3ºC.

Like on the Atlantic Coast.

The Rio de la Plata was filled with people.

But a violet warning was also issued

for both Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, La Pampa, La Rioja, Mendoza, Neuquén, Río Negro, San Luis, San Juan and Santa Fe.

"The warnings - explains Cindy Fernandez, meteorologist of the SMN - serve to give a climatic news

that is already happening.

In this case because of the heat. The alert instead is a forecast."

And he continues: "Warnings are issued when there are phenomena capable of presenting

inconveniences in daily activities and in the development of daily life.

They are given when there is a meteorological situation that covers a wide area and persist over time. For example, the reduction visibility (due to smoke, dust or ash) or persistence of high or low temperature ".

With these temperatures, in the City of Buenos Aires the #HeatWave is declared

In that sense, Fernández said that

there may be a warning without necessarily having an alert.

Regarding the reason for the violet color, the meteorologist explained that it does not belong to a range of colors that indicate different levels,

but that violet is a single warning color and that it was chosen so that it is different from those of the alerts (yellow, orange and red).

The recommendations against this type of warnings about heat are several: it recommends

increasing the consumption of liquids without waiting to be thirsty

to maintain adequate hydration;

do not expose yourself to the sun in excess, nor in the middle of the day (between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.);

avoid alcoholic or highly sugary drinks

;

try not to eat very large meals;

eat vegetables and fruits;

reduce physical activity;

wear light, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing, a hat, and dark glasses;

and

stay in ventilated or conditioned spaces.

The ranking of temperatures at 16 was led by the city of San Juan with 40.4 degrees, followed by San Martín in Mendoza with 39 and then Viedma (Río Negro), with 38.7,

but a thermal sensation that climbed to hellish 47.1.

Meanwhile, San Rafael (Mendoza), the capital of La Rioja, Bahía Blanca (Buenos Aires), San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca and Villa Reynolds (San Luis) were other hot spots in the country this Sunday.

On the other hand, the lowest temperatures according to the 16 o'clock update were recorded in the Fuegian capital of Ushuaia with 18.7ºC;

in the Jujuy town of La Quiaca, with 14.5º and in the city of Río Grande (Tierra del Fuego) with 13º.

As for the City of Buenos Aires, this Monday the agency foresees a day with variable cloudiness, winds from the northeast sector rotating to the north and east and a temperature that will be between 26 degrees minimum and 35 degrees maximum.

The purple warning will continue.

Meanwhile,

on Tuesday the rain would arrive and with it, a very slight drop in temperature.

For that day storms are forecast, winds from the northwest sector rotating to the south and a temperature that will have a minimum of 25 degrees and a maximum of 32.
