Two weeks after a mining accident in eastern China, rescue workers were able to rescue eleven buried mine workers.

Chinese media showed footage of the first miner to be recovered.

He was blindfolded and very weak.

According to Reuters news agency, some of the rescued men were able to walk, only one was injured.

On January 10, under as yet unexplained circumstances, there was an explosion in the mine.

The exit from the shaft was buried and the internal communication system was badly damaged.

22 men were trapped underground.

A week later, the rescue workers heard the first signs of life from twelve miners trapped at a depth of more than 500 meters.

One of them died from his injuries in the mine.

According to state media, rescue teams had drilled holes and heard blows against the drill pipe.

The rock in the mine is mainly granite and because of this very hard material, the work is only progressing slowly, the mayor of Yantai, to which Qixia belongs, explained.

Nutrient solutions were said to have been lowered into the depths on steel cables through the hole.

The rescuers felt the ropes being pulled from below.

Later, those buried could have sent up a note asking for medication and bandages.

According to Xinhua, they reported several injuries and a lot of smoke and water in the shaft.

Xinhua reported a few days ago that two "very weak" workers are doing better and can walk again after food has been brought down to them.

There were no signs of life from the other ten buried miners.

China's mines are considered to be the most dangerous in the world.

Thousands of pals are killed every year.

Poor security and lack of supervision due to nepotism are common causes.

Many accidents are also covered up.

Because the rescue operation in Qixia started one day late, the town's mayor and the local head of the Communist Party were dismissed last week.

In December, 23 people were killed in a mining accident in the southwestern city of Chongqing.
