(ANSA) - TRIPOLI, JAN 25 - Clashes in Lebanon between police and demonstrators protesting against the lockdown imposed to stem the spread of Covid which has reached an unprecedented peak that aggravates the already devastating economic crisis.
Tires were burned and stones were thrown, the forces of order responded with the launch of tear gas and rubber bullets.
According to the Lebanese Red Cross, it reported that more than 30 people were injured, six of whom were hospitalized.
Tripoli is the poorest city in Lebanon and many residents live below the poverty line.
Last week, Lebanon launched a two-week total lockdown - including a 24-hour curfew - to stem the rise in coronavirus cases and prevent the collapse of its health system.
The country, with six million inhabitants, has so far recorded over 280,000 cases and 2,404 deaths.
