(ANSA) - LONDON, 25 JAN - The decline in daily cases and deaths for Covid in the United Kingdom seems to be slowly consolidating, struggling for weeks with the impact of the so-called English variant of the virus, more aggressive, and still in a serious national lockdown. The infections recorded in the last 24 hours were 22,195 out of 412,000 tests against about 30,000 yesterday, according to government data released on the sidelines of the briefing today entrusted to the Minister of Health, Matt Hancock, while the deaths fell to 592 against over 600 yesterday, after many consecutive days, well over 1000 daily deaths. The wave of hospitalizations is also slowing, which by mid-December has returned to put many hospitals under severe pressure. However, the possible statistic delay of some partial data traditionally collected late in the weekend weighs on today's figures. There is also the overall picture of a country that now has a total of over 98,000 official victims since the beginning of the pandemic: European peak in absolute numbers and world record in relation to the population considering only medium-large countries after overtaking Italy with 1,447 deaths per million of inhabitants against about 1420. While only Belgium and Slovenia have the worst relative tolls in Europe, with over 1,750 and 1,500 deaths per million respectively. (HANDLE).
