New entry rules in the wake of the corona pandemic pose challenges for Europe-wide logistics.
Could we notice this in the supermarket?
A German association warns.
The new
corona entry rules
not only have an impact on tourism.
The transport of
goods and goods
is also affected by the new designation of high-incidence areas.
The German
Fruit Trade Association
fears consequences for the fruit and vegetable offer in
Germany's supermarkets
.
Bonn / Munich - "We need a supply corridor for fresh fruit and vegetables even in times of the Corona, otherwise there is a risk of empty shelves in the trade," warns Andreas Brügger, Managing Director of the German Fruit Trade Association.
He fears that the tightening of the corona entry regulation will
threaten
the supply of
fresh fruit from abroad
.
Corona entry regulation: Association fears bottlenecks in fruit and vegetables
Brügger explained to the dpa that drivers from the specified
high-risk areas such as Portugal and Spain
have had to present
a negative PCR-Corona test *, which is
no older than 72 hours,
when
crossing the border on
Sunday
.
In practice this is hardly feasible.
"Spain is currently one of the main supplier countries for fruit and vegetables with a share of around 30 percent," said Brugger.
According to the association, there were exceptions for the transport of goods before the change to the entry rules.
"Now the federal government is lifting
this exemption
for travelers from
high-risk areas
or areas in which virus mutations have occurred," said Brügger in a press release.

Delivery delays due to Corona rules: Association calls for an EU-wide solution
Together with other associations,
Chancellor Angela Merkel
pointed out the possible consequences
to the
German government
at an early stage, "unfortunately without result".
The association called for binding regulations across Europe, as
already defined in
the
European Union's
Green Lanes Directive
.
"In this way, on the one hand, the borders for the free movement of goods are kept open and, on the other hand, health protection and security of supply are guaranteed," explained Brügger.
The directive provides for border crossings within the EU with special
lanes
that enable
goods vehicles
to
pass through quickly
.
The Robert Koch Institute * currently lists 26 countries as
high incidence areas
.
In addition to Spain and Portugal, this category also applies to the Czech Republic, Slovenia and the USA.
Brazil, Ireland, South Africa and Great Britain are designated as virus variant areas and are therefore also affected by the new regulation.
High-risk mutations of the coronavirus * are rampant in these four states.
