(ANSA) - POMPEIA, 25 JAN - Frescos, sculptures, furnishings, silver, stuccoes, amulets, up to the last casts of the victims that emerged during the excavations from the villa of Civita Giuliana.

The general director of the Mibact Museums, Massimo Osanna, inaugurated the Antiquarium of Pompeii in its renewed layout which now represents a museum itinerary dedicated to the permanent exhibition of finds that illustrate the history of Pompeii.

Expressing satisfaction with the event, Osanna started from the history of the building to illustrate its importance.

"It was subject to ups and downs. Inaugurated by Giuseppe Fiorellin about 1873 and enlarged by Amedeo Maiuri starting from 1926, in 1943 it suffered the damage of the bombing which led to the destruction of an entire room and the loss of hundreds of openers. A new layout followed in 1948. . But still in 1980, the earthquake determined its closure again for 36 years and only in 2016, it was possible to reopen it with rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions ".

"Today - explained Osanna - a completely renewed space is returned to public use which refers to that which was the first museum concept of Amedeo Maiuri and which will constitute an introduction to the visit of the site".

Through the most relevant finds, the history of Pompeii is retraced from the Samnite age (4th century BC) to the tragic eruption of 79 AD, with particular evidence of the inseparable relationship with Rome.
