(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, JAN 25 - The US Chamber will transmit the article of the second impeachment against Donald Trump inserted, when the 'managers' of the proceedings (devised-prosecutors) read it and deliver it to the Senate.
Tomorrow, however, the senators will be sworn in as judges in the trial, which begins on February 9.
In these two weeks the parties will be able to prepare for the debate and exchange preliminary briefings. Trump must respond by February 2 to accusations of instigating his fans to storm Congress to overturn the vote and also of lobbying the Georgia secretary. There are still some unknowns, such as the length of the trial (the first lasted 21 days) and the calling of witnesses. One of the main legal issues will be the constitutionality of the proceedings against an already out of office president: a point on which jurists are divided.
A two-thirds majority is required for the sentence: the 50 Democratic senators will therefore have to join at least 17 Republican colleagues. (HANDLE).
