What if Google cut off access to its search engine in Australia?
This is the thinly veiled threat formulated Friday during a hearing in the Senate by Mel Silva, director of Google on the island-continent.
Simon Milton, Facebook vice president in charge of public affairs in the Asia-Pacific region, meanwhile explained that the social network could be required to block the sharing of press articles.
These shocking statements provoked the wrath of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison:
“Australia makes the rules as to what can be done in Australia.
It is our Parliament that decides.
We do not bow to threats. ”
