The agreement between Moscow and Washington to extend the New Start treaty for five years is "a step in the right direction" to reduce global tensions: said Russian President Vladimir Putin remotely speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"It is certainly a step in the right direction, but, nevertheless, the differences continue to spiral into what is called a spiral," said Putin, quoted by the Interfax agency.
The lower house of the Russian parliament, the Duma, today ratified the extension of the New START treaty. "The New Start treaty will be extended for five years without preconditions.
