The Six Nations tournament "for now" goes on, despite the pandemic and, "in the current state of things", the hypothesis of a postponement is not taken into consideration, as has already been done for the women's tournament, or cancellation .
This was stated by the director general of the organizing committee of the tournament, Benjamin Morel, commenting on the developments of the situation based on the evolution of the pandemic.
So the opening match of the tournament remains that of Saturday 6 February in Rome (15.15) between Italy and France and it goes on as scheduled, which includes the end of the 6 Nations 2021 with the matches of 20 March (for the Azzurri Scotland-Italy in Edinburgh).
"A hypothesis of postponement has never really been considered so far - Morel said during a videoconference - and every other option can be examined according to our future constraints. But now we are totally focused on the organization as it was. expected so far ".
However, there are those who hypothesize that the tournament may take place in different venues than the usual ones, such as Nanterre for France, and in this regard Morel commented: "from the point of view of safety protocols, I believe that every federation has provided for what concerns its facilities. There are also commercial constraints and in terms of visibility in the stadiums. Furthermore, one of the most important things of the tournament is that it includes matches in Cardiff, Dublin ... ", as if to say that the matches will take place in the usual stadiums, obviously without an audience.
But is there a plan B that provides for the postponement of the tournament if the infections increase?
"Yes, but at the moment we are not talking about it", the CEO's reply.
"However we await clarification from the French government - he added - on the isolation protocol for those coming from Great Britain".
Meanwhile, tomorrow the 6 Nations 2021 will be presented at Coni, with Youtube / Fedrugby live from 12, by the president Giovanni Malagò and by that of the federugby Alfredo Gavazzi.
The CEO of Sport and Health Vito Cozzoli, the mayor of Rome Virginia Rggi and the Italian coach Franco Smith will also participate.
