The Galerie des Oubliés is a fine title to name a new place which opens on January 28 in Nantes and a new concept which intends to
"shed light on those who are hiding"
.
To do justice to those whom the history of art has misjudged, disdained or erased under the laurels of others, these
“unknown talents or with too fleeting visibility, these artists out of step with their time have made no concessions to their art"
.
It's both a noble intention, a commercial lead and a Loch Ness monster.
It takes a certain madness and a real rigor to survey this "terra incognita" where hides another world made up of individualities, stubbornness and singular research.
And, who knows, perhaps a rare pearl, a marvel to be rediscovered like Vermeer, genius of the 17th Dutch surrounded by his sponsors, forgotten by the history of art in the 18th century, but not collectors from Delft.
