Egypt plans to build the country's first high-speed rail line, which is supposed to connect the Red Sea with the Mediterranean.

The length of the full route will be about 1,000 km, and the first section, which is 460 km long, will connect the town of Ein Almein, on the shores of the Mediterranean, and the town of Ein Suhana on the shores of the Red Sea.

The two relatively small towns are expected to register rapid development in the near future.

The Lonely Planet website reports that the railway line will pass through 15 stations, including the "New Egyptian Capital" project near Cairo, which began in 2015 and is expected to house the various government buildings.

According to the report, the construction of the new railway line is expected to be completed in about two years, and its construction has been entrusted to the German company Siemens.

The first part of the project is budgeted at about $ 3 billion.

"We are proud to expand our credible partnership with Egypt," said Joe Kaiser, President and CEO of Siemens AG. "This is through the establishment of an efficient rail system.

We will offer the Egyptian people reliable and clean transportation at an equal price for every person. "

Almost every city and town: 5,000 km of railroads

Although the extensive project will assimilate a high-speed train in Egypt for the first time, there is a train network in the country that was established as early as the 1950s.

In fact, Egypt was the first country in Africa and the Middle East to establish a network of railway lines.

Today, this network travels 5,000 kilometers across the country, connecting almost every major city and town. However, it is an outdated train system that has a fairly low budget, which has caused a number of fatal accidents in recent years.

Although they

were brought from Russia and are supposed to replace the old carriages,

although towards the end of the First War the railway network in Egypt was connected to that of Palestine, which was operated by the Ottomans, it seems that this time such a connection is not expected.
